Bedroom inventory checklist

What to photograph and record in the bedroom for a check-in, check-out or inspection report, with a photo tip for each item.

  1. DoorPhotograph the full door open, then the handle and frame close up.
  2. WindowShoot the whole window from inside, then the frame, catch and sill.
  3. BedWhole bed, then the mattress surface uncovered and the frame joints.
  4. WardrobeOne shot closed, one with doors open showing shelves and hinges.
  5. DeskShoot the top at a low angle for scratches, then the legs and fixings.
  6. FlooringCrouch low and shoot along the floor so scuffs, stains and edges catch the light.
  7. Walls & ceilingTake each wall square-on from a few feet back so marks and paint finish show.
  8. Light fittings & socketsClose up and straight on, showing the faceplate and any cracks or scorching.

For each item, record

  • Its condition: new, good, fair or poor.
  • A short description: colour, material, type.
  • Any marks or damage, and how clean it is.
  • Whether it works, for doors, windows, appliances and fittings.

Take at least 8 photos in every room, and at least one of each item. A wide shot first, then close-ups of anything worn or damaged.
